By questioning assumptions, seeking evidence, and considering multiple perspectives, individuals can navigate the complexities of the modern world more effectively. I’ve made it a personal rule to always check the source before sharing anything online. I ask myself: Who wrote this? What’s their agenda? Is there evidence to support this claim? It takes an extra thirty seconds, but it’s saved me from spreading misinformation more times than I can count. Critical thinking isn’t about being cynical or distrusting everything; it’s about being responsible with the information you consume and share.

Education systems must, therefore, prioritize cultivating this skill over the mere memorization of facts. I remember in school, I could memorize dates and formulas and pass any test, but I never learned how to evaluate an argument or identify logical fallacies. That’s a failure of the system. We need to teach students how to think, not what to think. In a world where AI can generate convincing essays and deepfakes can make anyone say anything, the ability to think critically is not just an academic skill; it’s a survival skill. It’s how we protect ourselves from manipulation, make better decisions, and ultimately build a more informed and rational society.
